From President Kirsty Stark:
It was fantastic to welcome our most recent NYSF (National Youth Science Forum) alumnus Eddie Han to our Tuesday meeting, along with his Science Coordinator from Prince Alfred College, Peter Hopkins.
Eddie recently returned from the NYSF experience in Canberra, and spoke to us about his experience, including the lectures and presentations he attended, the fantastic ‘Staffies (former alumni),’ his chess challenges with buddy Max – including at the final disco, and even a game of air hockey with a robot.
Each year our club assists a Year 11 student to attend NYSF, and we are yet to have someone return having had a less than incredible experience. Eddie hopes to pursue Engineering at university and had a particular interest in any activity linked to this discipline.
After Eddie’s presentation Peter Hopkins said a few words and presented us with a copy of the PAC Science Journal, which featured Eddie as its Editor. Thank you Eddie, and all the best with Year 12 this year!
Club Social Event – Fringe Comedy
We have now confirmed that our Rotary Fringe social night will take place on Tuesday March 14th in lieu of our regular morning meeting. The comedy show starts at 6pm and you will need to purchase your own tickets here: https://www.adelaidefringe.com.au/fringetix/10-comedy-bonanza
There is a choice of ‘Show Only’ for $10 or ‘Meal and Show’ for $31. I have booked a table for 7:15pm so that we can enjoy dinner after the show at the Belgian Beer Cafe. There is a choice of five main courses, and each comes with a glass of beer. You may purchase additional drinks from the bar if you wish to do so.
Please let me know once you have purchased your tickets so that I can confirm final dinner numbers with the venue.
Secret River Car Park Marshalls
We had a great first night of marshalling cars at the Adelaide Festival performance of Secret River at Anstey Hill Quarry. Thanks to Lindsay for being our club contact point, and to everyone who helped on the first night. Three more to come. Editor’s Note: Are they Nerds at a Star Wars Convention?
