From President Kirsty Stark:
At Tuesday’s meeting we welcomed Robbie Westley from Replas, who came to speak about the work his company does in recycling used plastic and turning it into a wide range of products within the community.
They obtain plastic from a multitude of sources, including plastic bags, bumper bars, hospital shrinkwrap and more, and then transforms into plastic bollards, outdoor benches, pathways, decking and more. Have a look at some of the amazing products on the Replas website: http://www.replas.com.au/
Robbie is obviously passionate about what he does, and Replas contributes a huge amount to the Australian environment, by redirecting used plastic from ending up in waste. Just one Replas bollard prevents over 2500 plastic bags ending up in landfill! Amazing work.
As a side note, you may care to look at the “War on Waste” program currently screening on the ABC on Tuesday evenings (or on iview). It’s a huge eye opener as to the amount of waste in
Australia: http://www.abc.net.au/tv/programs/war-on-waste/
Club Member and Councillor with the City of Campbelltown, John Kennedy, is well aware of the work Replas does with Local Government, including the City of Campbelltown and is shown in the picture below with Robbie, holding some of the raw product used by Replas.
Welcome Romeo!
We were also lucky to have Romeo Caporaso attend our meeting as a guest. Romeo came along to our Business Networking evening last month, and will be speaking at the club in June, so it was great to welcome him to a meeting and introduce him to Rotary.
