This evening we gathered at The Gums Memorial Garden in Tranmere for the dedication of the new memorial seats by Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia. These five beautiful seats in a range of commemorative designs were a collaboration of our club, Magill RSL Sub-Branch South Australia, Rotary Club of Campbelltown. Rotary Club of Morialta and Lions Club of Athelstone-Rostrevor, with support from Campbelltown City Council (SA). They will provide an opportunity for contemplation in this very special place; a chance to truly reflect on the sacrifices so many made so that we can live in this peaceful, free nation. The event was also attended by our local State members Vincent Tarzia - Member for Hartley and John Gardner Member for Morialta, and also Major Meredith Burgess Acting President of R&SL South Australia and President of Magill R&SL Sub-Magill RSL Sub-Branch South Australia, Tara Belton CEO of R&SL South Australia, Jill Whittaker OAM Campbelltown Mayor, several Councillors and staff from Campbelltown City Council including CEO Paul Di Iulio, both Lions and Rotary District Governors, Reverend Rebecca Purling plus many members of the various service clubs involved and the Magill RSL. Of very special note was the attendance of World War II veteran Lance Corporal Mario Giovine, who is now 100 years old. He absolutely delighted in sharing a few giggles with Her Excellency.We sincerely acknowledge and thank the Presidents and members of the service clubs involved and the Magill RSL for their role in bringing this project to fruition, and Lindsay Davis from our club for his role as MC for the ceremony. We also acknowledge the outstanding artistic workmanship of David & Jodie Wynes from Plasma Art Adelaide for creating these exquisite seats that will be a lasting addition to this special space.
